Hamburg

ETFA 2008 will be held in Hamburg. Hamburg is situated in the north of Germany and is easy to reach by all means of transportation. Hamburg Airport (destination code HAM) is located only 8.5 km away both from the city center and 11.5km from the conference site. The 'Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg', as it is officially named, holds Europe's second biggest container harbour, more bridges than any other town in the world and offers an open and international atmosphere. Social events and excursions will give the opportunity to get an impression of the architectural, cultural and technical highlights.

Helmut Schmidt University

The conference will be held at the Helmut-Schmidt-University, which has been named after the former Bundeskanzler who founded it in 1973. More information about the Helmut-Schmidt-University, including travel connections, can be found here.

Hamburg can best be discovered from a boat trip!

Discover the attractive seaside of Hamburg while comfortably sitting in an original harbour barge, that makes her way through the port. The boat carries you from the St. Pauli Landungsbruecken, the shipping piers from steamship times, past the Cap San Diego, a general cargo ship that today is a museum and trademark of the port. Your tour continues to the Ballin Stadt, a museum in the former emigrant halls, where emigrants lived before embarking on a ship to America. You will see the old warehouses of the Speicherstadt and the modern buildings in the Hafen City. Your boat will seem tiny while you pass container vessels and bulk carriers in the busy port.

You can embark at "Landungsbruecken" (underground station) for boat trips on the Elbe river and at "Jungfernstieg" (underground station) for boat trips on the Alster river and pond.
